Pouch Laminating Machines are available in widths from 4”-13” wide and up to 44” wide and are used to laminate from card size up to 11”x17.” They use what is called a “Lamination Pouch,” consisting of two sheets of plastic that are sealed on one side and open on three sides.

Simply insert your item to be laminated into the pouch and run it through the laminating Machine. The Laminating Pouch is made up of plastic and a heat-activated adhesive; the plastic lamination machine activates the adhesive and permanently seals the plastic into the document (variety of business card laminating machines are available to suit your needs).

The "carrier" Some Pouch Laminators require a "carrier" to laminate, and some do not. A carrier is a folded piece of reusable cardstock into which you insert your material to be laminated to keep adhesive from getting onto the rollers. ALPS recommends using the carrier to keep the rollers clean (we include one in every box).

Roll Laminators

Unlike with a Pouch Laminator, Roll Laminating Machines run a continuous web of plastic for laminating larger quantities of paper products. They’re available in widths from 13" up to 60" wide and are suitable with either cold or hot Laminating Films.

  • Hot or (Thermal) Laminators use two rolls, (a top and a bottom) of heat-activated Laminating Film to encapsulate documents. They melt the film onto the paper by passing the Laminating Film over a set of heat shoes or heated rollers and through a set of nip-and-pull rollers that apply pressure. The heat activates the adhesive in the film and permanently seals it to the paper.
  • Cold Laminators use a pressure-sensitive adhesive to apply the film to the paper. Cold films are about five times the cost of thermal films but are needed for certain heat-sensitive application.
  • Standard core sizes for Roll Laminating Films are 1", 2.25", and 3" cores.
  • Finishes are high gloss or matte.
